Ingredients
4cupsbrewed, unsweetened iced tea
1cupbourbon
1cupwater
1cupgranulated sugar
1cupfresh mint leaves
crushed ice
mint leaves
lime and/or lemon slices
Instructions
In a sauce pan combine the one cup of water, one cup of sugar and one cup of mint leaves. Bring to a boil, stir until sugar dissolves and remove the pan from the heat. Leave the mint leave in the mixture to steep for about 20 minutes. Strain the mint leaves out and discard and pour the simple syrup into a glass container, preferably with a pouring spout. This recipe can be doubled or tripled. Simple syrup can be made one day ahead and kept in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.
Combine the tea and bourbon in a pitcher. Pour the tea and bourbon mixture over crushed ice in individual glasses. Stir about one tablespoon (more or less depending on preference) of the mint simple syrup into each glass of bourbon-spiked iced tea. Serve each drink with fresh mint leaves and lime slices.
